Jovens Urgentes: Aqui e Agora!

The project aimed to strengthen democratic culture by creating spaces that bring young people closer to civic and political participation, enabling them to become agents of change in their own communities.

The project JOVENS URGENTES – Here and Now! was promoted by PELE and developed within the scope of Axis 1 – Strengthening Democratic Culture, under the Active Citizens Program.

The project's aim was to strengthen democratic culture by creating spaces that bring young people closer to civic and political participation, enabling them to become agents of change in their own communities.

In this context, students from lower and upper secondary education in the municipalities of Maia and Valongo were invited to take part in artistic workshops, reflection sessions, mobilization actions, public interventions, debates, and the definition of a political agenda together with decision-makers and the wider community.

The project was grounded in artistic expression as a catalyst, a tool for mobilization, and a means of civic and political engagement for young people. The work process revolved around themes such as: youth participation, democracy, partisanship, civic associations, web activism, artivism, human rights, and other “urgent topics” suggested by the youth.
